

Ryu generally wants to out-think and outsmart his opponent. He excels at footsies, which is the act of controlling space using your normals. This is why most of his moves cause knockdown and/or push opponents far away. Most of the time, Ryu wants to create space. His most comfortable neutral game is at about 1/2 to 3/4 screen distance, where he can throw fireballs and punish opponents accordingly for jumping over them. Ryu is a very fundamental, zoning-oriented character.
